The late Jan Decker of Sherrodsville, Ohio will have her wildlife art paintings featured during November and December at the Arts. Jan Decker, who passed away on January 25 worked exclusively in oils and was basically self-taught. She credited her talent as a gift from above.
Jan loved animals, remarking, “Some artists prefer landscapes, I prefer to paint what lives in them.” Her works are in every state except Hawaii and can be found in England, Russia, Mexico, Canada and Australia.
Jan created a series of wildlife paintings of endangered species, their eyes reflecting what has caused them to become endangered. The series “In Their Eyes,” has gained recognition across the country. The latest in the series release is “Thoughtless Pleasure.”
She has exhibited at the Cincinnati Zoo Wildlife Expo; Cross Road Gallery, Lansing, Michigan; Midwest Wildlife Conference, Cincinnati, Ohio; spirit of America, Atlanta, Georgia; Bay Village Science Center, Cleveland, Ohio; Atwood Wildlife Art Show and Fall Festival, Dellroy, Ohio; Virginia Living Museum and at shows in Minneapolis and Jacksonville, West Virginia.
Her honors have included a Judges’ Choice award for her polar bears at Virginia Beach and the People’s Choice award at Art in the Park, Youngstown, Ohio.
Jan has been the Featured Artist at the Zoar River Gallery, Carroll County Arts Center, Atwood Lake Art Festival, Virginia Living Museum, and Butterfly Festival in Texas. She was a member of the Tuscarawas and Carroll County Arts Centers.
